The Real World
(T-13.VII.1:1-6,2:1-4)
" Sit quietly and look upon the world you see and tell yourself:
The real world is not like this.
It has no buildings
And there are no streets where people walk alone and separate.
There are no stores where people buy an endless list of things they do not need.
It is not lit with artificial light, and night comes not upon it.
There is no day that brightens and grows dim.
There is no loss.
Nothing is there but shines, and shines forever.
The world you see must be denied, for sight of it is costing you a different kind of vision.
You cannot see both worlds, for each of them involves a different kind of seeing,
And depends on what you cherish.
The sight of one is possible because you have denied the other.
Both are not true, yet either one will seem as real to you as the amount to which you hold it dear."

Seeing the real world is more than just a different way of looking at the physical world. It is looking beyond the physical world entirely. It is literally denying that the physical world exists at all! No buildings, no streets, no stores, no bodies, no day, no night, no lack, no loss, and no fear.
You see the physical world because you have denied the real world. Therefore to see the real world, you must now deny the physical. “The sight of it is costing you a different kind of vision.” (2:3)
What you see that you call “beauty” (fall foliage, waterfalls, sunrises and sunsets) are all just substitutes for what is really beautiful. There is no beauty in “things” because they are illusions. The value lies not in them, but in you, in your experience as you appreciate these “things.”
God is the Source of true beauty, not the physical things that you call beautiful. The beauty that you think you see in the world is in reality a mere reflection of the beauty that is in your Self. Just say, “This world is not a part of what I want.” You want the vision of God, the experience of Him that provides you with a beauty, along with a peace, that surpasses your present understanding. You want the beauty of Heaven -- where GOD IS.
