Miracle Principle 47

Principle 47: The miracle is a learning device that lessens the need for time. It establishes an out-of-pattern time interval not under the usual laws of time. In this sense it is timeless. (T-1.I.47)

Each day should be devoted to miracles. The purpose of time is to enable you to learn how to use time constructively. It is thus a teaching device and a means to an end. Time will cease when it is no longer useful in facilitating learning. (T-1.I.15:1-4)

How can you teach someone the value of something he has deliberately thrown away? He must have thrown it away because he did not value it. You can only show him how miserable he is without it, and slowly bring it nearer so he can learn how his misery lessens as he approaches it. This teaches him to associate his misery with its absence, and the opposite of misery with its presence. It gradually becomes desirable as he changes his mind about its worth. Jesus is teaching you to associate misery with the ego and joy with the spirit. You have taught yourself the opposite. You are still free to choose, but can you really want the rewards of the ego in the presence of the rewards of God? (T-4.VI.5:1-7)

Jesus’ trust in you is greater than yours in him at the moment, but it will not always be that way. Your mission is very simple. You are asked to live so as to demonstrate that you are not an ego, and Jesus does not choose God’s channels wrongly. The Holy One shares Jesus’ trust in you, and accepts his Atonement decisions because his will is never out of accord with His. Jesus is in charge of the Atonement. He completed his part in it as a man, and can now complete it through others, and this includes YOU. His chosen channels cannot fail, because he will lend them his strength as long as theirs is wanting. If you are 10% strong, he will lend you the other 90%. Trust in this. (T-4.VI.6:1-7)

Jesus will go with you to the Holy One, and through his perception He can bridge the little gap. Your gratitude to your brother is the only gift he wants. He will take it to God for you, knowing that to know your brother is to know God. If you are grateful to your brother, you are grateful to God for what He created. Through your gratitude you come to know your brother, and one moment of real recognition makes everyone your brother because each of them is of your Father – every single one, no matter the appearance of things -- and that is the truth. Love does not conquer all things, but it does set all things right. Because you are the Kingdom of God, Jesus can lead you back to your own creations. What has been dissociated is still there. The Light of Love will reveal it. (T-4.VI.7:1-8)

As you come closer to a brother you approach Jesus. And as you withdraw from your brother, Jesus becomes distant to you. Salvation is a collaborative venture. It cannot be undertaken successfully by those who disengage themselves from the Sonship, because they are disengaging themselves from Jesus, too. God will come to you only as you will give Him to your brothers. Learn first of your brothers and then you will be ready to hear God because the function of Love is One. (T-4.VI.8:1-6)

All your difficulties stem from the fact that you do not recognize yourself, your brother or God. When you accept the miracle, it lessens the need for time to reach this knowledge. The questioning mind perceives itself in time, and therefore looks for answers in the future. The fear of the future inhibits the tendency to question at all. Perception, questions, miracles, time and doing are all closely related. Yet knowledge is the result of revelation and induces only thought. It comes from the altar within and is timeless because it is certain. The light abolishes darkness merely by showing you it is not there. Thus, knowledge need not do anything. It always brings peace without question. (T-3.III.IV.)

Truth will always overcome error in this way. Knowledge preceded both perception and time, and will ultimately replace them. Perception can and must be stabilized, but knowledge is stable. “Fear God and keep His commandments,” therefore, becomes “Know God and accept His certainty.” (T-3.III.6:4-7)

To think like God is to share His certainty of what you are, and to create like Him is to share the perfect Love He shares with you. The Holy Spirit leads you to this, that your joy may be whole and complete because the Kingdom of God is whole and complete. (T-7.I.7:1-2)

The last step in the reawakening of knowledge is taken by God. Now, this is true, but it is hard to explain in words because words are symbols, and nothing that is true needs to be explained. However, the Holy Spirit has the task of translating the useless into the useful, the meaningless into the meaningful, and the temporary into the timeless. The Holy Spirit can therefore tell you something about this last step that is taken by God in your awakening. Let us see what this is. Please read on. (T-7.I.6:3-6)

First, be advised that God does not actually take “steps” because His accomplishments are not gradual. GOD IS, not God “will be.” God does not teach either, because His creations are changeless. They were given all knowledge in their Creation, so what is there to learn? What is there to be taught? Understand that the word “first” as applied to God is not a time concept. He is the Prime Creator, First Cause, because He created His co-creators. And because He did, time applies neither to Him nor to what He created. Therefore, the “last step” that God will take was true in the beginning, is true now, and will be true forever. Time just simply does not apply to God, and therefore, not to you as you are His holy Creation. (T-7.I.7:1-7)

Second, what is timeless is always there, because its being is eternally changeless. It does not change even by increase, because it was forever created to increase. If you perceive it as not increasing you do not know what it is, and you also do not know Who created it. God does not reveal this to you because it was never hidden. His light was never obscured, because it is His Will to share it, as it is yours as well. How can what is fully shared be withheld and then revealed? (T-7.I.7:9-15)

Third, arrogance is the denial of love, because love shares and arrogance withholds. As long as both appear to you to be desirable the concept of choice, which is not of God, will remain with you. While this is not true in eternity it does appear to be true in time, so that while time lasts in your mind there will be choices to make. Actually, time itself is your choice! If you would remember eternity, you must look only on the eternal! (T-10.V.14:1-5)

Fourth, if you allow yourself to become preoccupied with the temporal, you are living in time. As always, your choice is determined by what you value. Time and eternity cannot both be real, because they contradict each other. If you will accept only what is timeless as real, you will begin to understand eternity and make it yours. (T-10.V.14:6-9) Love and truth are timeless . . .

The ego made the world as it perceives it, but the Holy Spirit, the re-interpreter of what the ego made, sees the world as a teaching device for bringing you home. The Holy Spirit must perceive time, and reinterpret it into the timeless. He must work through opposites, because He must work with and for a mind that is in opposition. (T-5.III.11:1-3)

Correct and learn, then, and be open to learning. You have not made truth, but truth can still set you free. Look as the Holy Spirit looks, and understand as He understands. His understanding looks back to God in remembrance of Jesus. He is in communion with God always, and He is part of you. He is your guide to salvation, because He holds the remembrance of things past and to come, and brings them to the present. He holds this gladness gently in your mind, asking only that you increase it in His Name by sharing it to increase His joy in you. (T-5.III.11:4-10)

So, enjoy, brother. Take these steps yourself and you will be aware that the Holy Spirit and Jesus are with you, helping you, every step of the way to awakening and remembering GOD IS. Amen
