Miracle Principle 28

Principle 28: Miracles are a way of earning release from fear. Revelation induces a state in which fear has already been abolished. Miracles are thus a means and revelation is an end. (T-1.I.28)

COURSE REFERENCES

A miracle is a correction introduced into false thinking by Jesus. It acts as a catalyst, breaking up erroneous perception and reorganizing it properly. This places you under the Atonement principle (the undoing of fear), where perception is healed by miracles. Until this has occurred, knowledge of the Divine Order is impossible. (T-1.I.37.1-4)

The Holy Spirit is the highest communication medium. He is the one remaining communication link between you and the Father. Miracles do not involve this type of communication, because they are temporary communication devices. When you return to your original form of communication with God by direct revelation (God speaking to you, not you to Him), the need for miracles is over. (T-1.I.46:1-3)

The miracle is the only device at your immediate disposal for controlling (abolishing) time. Only revelation transcends it, having nothing to do with time at all. (T-1.I.48:1-2)

Revelation unites you directly with God. Miracles unite you directly with your brother. Revelation induces only experience. Miracles induce action. (T-1.II.1:5-6,1:3-4)

Revelation induces complete but temporary suspension of doubt and fear. It reflects the original form of communication between God and His creations. (T-1.II.1:1-2)

Read “THE UNDOING OF FEAR.” (Chapter 28.all)

The miracle actually does nothing. All it does is to undo. And thus, it cancels out the interference to what has been done. It does not add; it merely takes away. And what it takes away (unforgiveness, fear, hate) is long since gone, but being kept in memory appears to have immediate results. This world was over long ago. The thoughts that made it are no longer in the mind that thought of them and loved them for a little while. The miracle shows that the past is gone, and what has truly gone has no effects. Remembering a cause can produce an illusion of its presence; it does not produce real effects. (T-28.I.1:1-9)

All the effects of guilt are here no more. For guilt is over. In its passing went its consequences, left without a cause. Why would you cling to guilt through memory if you did not desire its effects? (T-28.I.2:1-4) Do you understand what is being said here? Guilt is only a memory, one best left forgotten. It was only ever an idea in the mind, put there by the ego to mess with you. Tell the ego (or the illusion thereof) and the idea of guilt (or the illusion thereof) that the time for messing with your mind is done, that you are free in the spirit of God. And then  -- BE FREE.

The Holy Spirit can indeed make use of memory, for God Himself is there. Yet this is not a memory of past events, but only of a present state. You are so long accustomed to believing that memory holds only what is past, that it is hard for you to realize it is a skill that can remember now. The limitations on “remembering” the world imposes on it are as vast as those you let the world impose on you. There is no link of memory to the past. If you would have it there, then there it is. But only your desire made the link, and only you have held it where guilt appears to still linger. (T-28.I.5:1-3) Let the guilt go now.

The Holy Spirit’s use of memory is quite apart from time. He does not seek to use it as a means to keep the past, but rather as a way to let it go. Memory holds the message it receives and does what it is given it to do. (T-28.I.5:1-3) Give it the task of helping to free your mind of the unreal past of guilt, and let it remind you of the real present of love.

Remember nothing that you taught yourself, for you were badly taught. Who would keep a senseless lesson in his mind, when he can learn and preserve a better one? When ancient memories of hate appear, remember their cause is gone. And so, you cannot understand what they are for. (T-28.I.7:1-4) Without a cause, the hate is also gone. So now you can remember only the love you shared. The exchange is a good one.

The miracle comes quietly into the mind that stops an instant and is still. (T-28.I.11)

Nothing at all has happened but that you have put yourself to sleep and dreamed a dream in which you were an alien to yourself, and but a part of someone else’s dream. The miracle does not awaken you, but merely shows you who the dreamer is. It teaches you there is a choice of dreams while you are still asleep, depending on the purpose of your dreaming. Do you wish for dreams of healing, or for dreams of death? A dream is like a memory in that it pictures what you wanted shown to you. (T-28.II.4:1-5)

The miracle established you dream a dream, and that its content is not true. This is a crucial step in dealing with illusions. No one is afraid of dreams and illusions when he perceives he made them up. The fear was held in place because he did not see that he was the author of the dream, and not a figure in it. The miracle does nothing but to show him that he has done nothing. (T-28.II.7:1-4,10)

The miracle returns the cause of fear to you who made it. Thus, the body is healed by miracles because they show the mind made sickness, and employed the body to be the victim, or effect, of what it made. The lesson is the mind was sick that thought the body could be sick. Projecting out its guilt caused nothing and had no effects. (T-28.II.11:1,4,7)

What waits in perfect certainty beyond salvation is not your concern. For you have barely started to allow your first uncertain steps to be directed up the ladder separation led you down. The miracle alone is your concern at present. Here is where you must begin. And having started, the way will be made serene and simple in the rising up to waking and the ending of the dream. When you accept a miracle, you do not add your dream of fear to one that is already being dreamed. Thus, without support, the dream will fade away without effects. For it is your support that strengthens it. (T-28.III.1:1-8)

The end of dreaming, therefore, is the end of fear, and love was never in the world of dreams. Do not be afraid to let your world be gently lit by miracles. (T-28.III.2:6,8:1)

And thus, the mind is free to make another choice instead. Beginning here, salvation will proceed to change the course of every step in the descent to separation, until all the steps have been retraced, the ladder is gone, all the dreaming of the world is undone, and only the memory of a present God remains.

When your forgiveness is complete you will have total gratitude, for you will see that everything has earned the right to love by being loving, even as your Self. For love can walk no road except the way of gratitude, and thus we go who walk the way to where GOD IS. (W-195.8:6,10:6)
