Miracle Principle 15

Principle 15: Each day should be devoted to miracles. The purpose of time is to enable you to learn how to use time constructively. It is thus a teaching device and a means to an end. Time will cease when it is no longer useful in facilitating learning. (T-1.I.15)

COURSE REFERENCES

In essence, when learning ceases, when you know that you know, time as you know it will cease also, and eternity will be the norm. The Atonement (i.e., correction of error, or rather unlearning) is effected in time. At Atonement’s end, time will simultaneously end as well.

The miracle is a learning device that lessens the need for time. It establishes an out-of-pattern time interval not under the usual laws of time. Miracles not only save time, but are timeless. (T-1.I.47:1-3) The miracle is the only device at your immediate disposal for controlling time. Only revelation* transcends it, having nothing to do with time at all. Revelation induces a state in which fear has already been abolished. It induces complete but temporary suspension of doubt and fear. Revelation may occasionally reveal the end to you, but to reach it the means are needed. Miracles are thus a means and revelation is an end. (T-28.2-3)

*Revelation – Communication from the Father to His Son; the Holy Spirit keeps the channel open. (T-1.5:3)

When you are sad, know this need not be. Depression comes from a sense of being deprived of something you want and appear not to have. Remember that you are deprived of nothing except by your own decisions, and then decide otherwise. When you are anxious, realize that anxiety comes from the capriciousness of the ego, and know this need not be. You can be as vigilant against the ego’s dictates as for them.

Nothing and everything cannot coexist. To believe in one is to deny the other. Fear (and its forms of sadness and anxiety and worry and even panic) is really nothing and love is everything . . . It should be emphasized, however, that ultimately no compromise is possible between everything and nothing. Time is essentially a device by which all compromise in this respect can be given up. It only seems to be abolished by degrees, because time itself involves intervals that do not exist. (T-2.VII.5:1-3,10-12)

There is no escape from fear in the ego's use of time. For time, according to its teaching, is nothing but a teaching device for compounding guilt until it becomes all-encompassing, demanding vengeance forever. (T-15.I.7:6-7) Accepting God’s grace is the preferable alternative to ego and guilt.

The ego and the spirit do not know each other. The separated mind cannot maintain the separation except by dissociating. Having done this, it denies all truly natural impulses, not because the ego is a separate thing, but because you want to believe that you are separate. The ego is a device for maintaining this belief, but it is still only your decision to use the device that enables it to endure. (T-4.VI.4:1-4)

Can you even imagine what it means to have no cares, no worries, no anxieties, no sadness, but merely to be perfectly calm and quiet all the time – naturally? Yet that is what time is for; to learn just that and nothing more. God’s Teacher cannot be satisfied with His teaching until it constitutes ALL your learning. He has not fulfilled His teaching function until you have become such a consistent learner that you learn only of Him. When this has happened, you will no longer need a teacher, or time, in which to learn. (T-15.I.1:1-5) “The Holy Spirit is the Christ Mind which is aware of the knowledge that lies beyond perception.(T-5.I.5:1) Attend, then, to His teachings fully, and then help Him to teach others.

The Holy Spirit would undo all guilt leftover from the past now. Each instant is a clean, untarnished birth, in which the Son of God emerges from past into present. And the present extends forever. It is so beautiful and so clean and free of guilt that only happiness is there. No darkness is remembered, and immortality and joy are now. The ego made the world as it perceives it, but the Holy Spirit, the reinterpreter of what the ego made, sees the world as a teaching device for bringing you home. The Holy Spirit must perceive time and reinterpret it into the timeless. He must work through opposites, because He must work with and for a mind that is in opposition. Correct and learn and be open to learning. (T-5.III.11:1-4)

You have not made truth, but truth can still set you free. Look as the Holy Spirit looks and understand as He understands. His understanding looks back to God in remembrance of Jesus. He is in communion with God always, and He is part of you. He is your guide to salvation, because He holds the remembrance of things past and to come and brings them to the present. He holds this gladness gently in your mind, asking only that you increase it in His Name by sharing it to increase His joy in you. (T-5.III.11:5-10)

Now you must learn that only infinite patience produces immediate effects. This is the way in which time is exchanged for eternity. Infinite patience calls upon infinite love, and by producing results now it renders time unnecessary. (T-5.VI.12:1-3) We have repeatedly said that time is a learning device to be abolished when it is no longer useful. The Holy Spirit, Who speaks for God in time, also knows that time is meaningless. He reminds you of this in every passing moment of time, because it is His special function to return you to eternity and remain to bless your creations there. (T-5.VI.12: 4-6)

The Holy Spirit is the only blessing you can truly give to your brother, because only the Holy Spirit is truly blessed. And because He has been given you freely by God, you must therefore give Him as you received Him. (T-5.VI.12:7-8) He is, after all, in your Christ Mind. He is as -- GOD IS.

Addendum: “How Should the Teacher of God Spend His Day?” (M-16)

The teacher of God will be told all that his role should be, this day and every day. And those who share that role with him will find him, so they can learn the lessons for the day together. Everyone the teacher of God needs is sent and with a learning goal already set that can be learned that very day. And it is always possible to begin the day again, if it begins with error.

At the outset, time devoted to beginning the day right will save time. Spend time with God as soon as possible. Spend an instant or an hour of quiet time, continuing a minute or two after you find it difficult. Just be sure to allow the thought of God to enter your mind immediately upon arising. Do the same at night as it sets your mind in a pattern of rest. In particular, remember a thought of pure joy, of peace, of limitless release. Give up the illusion of protecting illusions, as you are not in danger but are imminently safe and you know it.

There is no distinction among problems faced during the day as they are all given to the Holy Spirit for resolution. Success is given to you at any time or place or circumstance in which you call for it. If you waver, remember your protection, recognizing the powerlessness of magic and self-reliance that would only lead to your downfall.

As you place your trust in the Holy Spirit, fear is withdrawn and all magic, all fear goes. Thus the gate of Heaven is reopened and its light can shine again on an untroubled mind – yours!
