Clarification of Terms: The Ego - The Miracle

What is the ego? It is but a dream; it is a thought you are apart from your Creator, a wish to be other than you were created. The ego is a thing of madness, not reality at all. A name for namelessness is what it is. Your name is the same as God's, for you are one with Him. We name the ego to help us to understand that it is nothing but an ancient thought that what is made has immortality, which is not true. Immortality is only found in creation. Only what is created lives eternally. Things made will dissipate in time.

All things are possible with God. The ego is a symbol of impossibility; a choice for options that do not exist. So what could come of this except a dream which, like all dreams, can only end in disappearance and "death"? Yet the ego is projecting its own demise, for the Holy Spirit's goal for you is Life. Since opposites cannot both be true, only Life is true.

The ego is nothingness -- in a form that seems like something. In a world of the illusion of form, the ego cannot be denied for it alone seems real. Yet could God's Son, created as spirit, abide in form or in a world of form? We have already learned that our natural environment of Heaven is the truth. Neither the world (directed by ego) nor even the real world (guided by the Holy Spirit) are the truth. So is it any wonder that there is strain and stress in the world? Only the truth brings peace and truth is only found in Heaven.

Anyone who asks you to define the ego and explain how it arose, seeks by definition to ensure that its illusive illusory nature is concealed behind the words that seem to make it true. Yet there is no definition that serves to make what is unreal true. Nor can there be a truth that lies can effectively conceal. The ego's unreality is not denied by words, nor is its meaning clear because of words, even though its nature seems to have a form. Who can define the undefinable? And yet there is an answer, even here.

We cannot really make a definition for what the ego is, but we can say what it is NOT. And this can be shown to us with perfect clarity. It is from what the ego is NOT, that we deduce all that the ego seems to be. Look at its opposite and you can see the only answer that is meaningful. The ego's opposite in every way -- in origin, effect and consequence -- we call a miracle. And it is here that we find all that the ego is NOT in this world. It is here that we find out all that the ego merely seemed to be. The Holy Spirit thus teaches us by contrast.

Where there was darkness, now we see the light. What does the ego seem to be? What the darkness was. The miracle shows us the light. Where does the ego seem to be? Where the darkness was. What is the ego now and where can it be found? It is nothing and nowhere. Now that the light has come, its opposite (darkness) has gone without a trace. Where there appeared to be evil, there now is holiness. What is the ego and what and where does the ego seem to be? It seems to be evil, in a dream that but seemed real while you were dreaming it. What is the ego? Who has need to ask? Where is the ego? Who has need to seek for the illusion of the ego now that dreams are gone?

What is a miracle? It is a dream as well. But look at all the aspects of this dream and you will never ask about the ego any more. Look at the kindly world you see extend before you as you walk in gentleness. Look at the helpers all along the way you travel, happy in the certainty of Heaven and the surety of peace. And look an instant, too, on what you left behind at last and finally passed by. This was the ego -- all the cruel hate, the need for vengeance and the cries of pain, the fear of dying and the urge to kill, the brotherless illusion and the self that seemed alone in all the universe. All this the miracle corrects, and shows you a sudden brightness that dissolves the world of nothingness the ego made. The miracle corrects this terrible mistake about yourself, as gently as a loving mother sings her child to rest. Is this a song you would like to hear? Would it answer all you thought to ask, and even make the questions meaningless now?

Your questions about the ego have no answer, being made to still God's Voice, Which asks of everyone one question only: "Are you ready yet to help Me save the world?" Ask this instead of what the ego is, and you will see a sudden brightness cover up the world the ego made. No miracle is now withheld from anyone. The world is saved from what you thought it was. What you thought was misperception and misinterpretation. This is what the ego taught you. And you listened. Yet listen to the ego no longer. Listen to the Holy Spirit's Voice of Love, allow Him to interpret for you, and learn what the world really is. It is wholly uncondemned and wholly pure when seen in light.

The miracle forgives; the ego condemns. Neither need be defined except by this. Yet could a definition be more sure, or more in line with what salvation is? When the problem and the answer lie together, and having met at last, the choice is clear. By bringing the lie to the truth -- that is how the lie is exposed. And will you continue on a little while when it is given you to understand the way is short and Heaven is your goal? Will you go on now, and walk surely to where GOD IS?

Prayer:

Father, our will is Your Will. You will for us to find You. The ego will not lead us to You. It cannot, as You are real and it is not. So we choose the Holy Spirit and the miracle, and we will find our way to You at last. As You promised, so shall it be. Amen.
